How To Drink Absinthe
The traditional way to drink absinthe is poured over a white sugar cube, there were even special absinthe spoons devised for the practise. Nowadays there is no such etiquette and many people pour their absinthe over ice-cream or made into a sorbet.
How to Drink Absinthe: Traditional Method
- Pour a shot of Absinthe into a glass;
- Place an Absinthe spoon on the glass and set a sugar cube on the spoon;
- Slowly drip four to six parts of iced water onto the sugar melting the sugar into the absinthe;
- Stir and drink.
How to Drink Absinthe: Czech Method
- Pour a shot of Absinthe into a glass;
- Dip a teaspoon of sugar in the absinthe so that it absorbs it;
- Set the sugar cube on an Absinthe spoon and place it on the glass;
- Set the sugar cube on fire and allow all the caramelised sugar to flow into the glass;
- Pour the water into the glass and stir.
How to Drink Absinthe: French Method
- Pour 30ml of absinthe into a glass;
- Lay a flat, perforated absinthe spoon across the rim of the glass, and place a single cube of sugar on the perforated area of the spoon;
- Drip very pure ice cold water into the absinthe from a small jug;
- Add 3 or 4 fluid ounces of water per 30mls of absinthe;
- Stir the drink with the absinthe spoon after the water has been added.
